My Witchy Hat Collection
I go through phases. Sometimes it’s kimonos, sometimes it’s hats. How do you guys feel about hats? Do you only wear them seasonally or year round? I love when a hat has a witchy vibe.
Some of my favorite hat designers are Eugenia Kim, Goorin Bros., and Polly Singer.
Eugenia Kim is a modern designer from NY. Her brand was born from a bad haircut! In 1998 she designed a hat for herself after getting a bad haircut and soon thereafter had her designs in Barneys New York. I love her seasonal trend setting releases.
Goorin Bros. was started in 1895 in PA and is an old school hat maker that has been able to adapt throughout the years. They are famous for their classic fedoras that are loved by celebrities. Fedoras were first made popular by American icons like Frank Sinatra and Humphrey Bogart. They are typically made of felt and are available in a variety of sizes and shapes, with the crown creased lengthwise.
Polly Singer started making hats in Kentucky in 1993. She is known for her eccentric Kentucky Derby hats. I love the drama of her designs.
Do you know how to pick out the right hat for yourself? Some people think they don’t look good in hats. Chances are they just haven’t found the right one. When choosing a hat, it’s all about your face shape. Here are my tips on finding your perfect hat.
Oval face shape: Any style looks good on the perfectly proportioned oval face. This is the best face shape for experimenting with hats and trends!
Heart face shape: Try hats that minimize a wider forehead. A medium brimmed hat like a beret or fedora look great with a heart face shape. Avoid large brims.
Round face shape: Look for angular hats. A tall crown and straight brim will lengthen and give angles to a round face. Avoid round crowns.
Long face shape: Try hats that cover most of your forehead. Look for floppy hats, cowboy hats, or wide-brim fedoras/sun hats. Avoid tall crowns and short brims because they will make your face look longer.
Short face shape: Wear hats with small brims and high crowns. This will elongate your face. Avoid hats that cover your forehead because it will make your face look shorter.
Square shape: Look for rounder styles, and avoid brims that are angular. A cloche looks fabulous with a square face shape because it softens angular lines. Avoid hats with a short brim, no brim, and angular shapes.
