The Kitchen Witch’s Cupboard

The kitchen can be a magical place. Every time a recipe calls for fresh herbs, I feel witchy 🍃🔮. I love the connection to the earth and my garden. There’s something about caring for the plants that nourish you that’s good for your soul. I dry some herbs for winter use every year but I also rely on some amazing companies like Burlap & Barrel for the rest. Everything we eat contributes to our health in either a negative or positive way. You may know many of the health benefits to the ingredients in your cupboard but do you know their magical associations?

The right storage makes a huge difference!

I recently upgraded my storage to use Airscapes, and let me tell you, it’s a game changer! I never realized my herbs, nuts, and dried fruits were stale until I started using these canisters.

Here’s what I currently have in my cupboard and their magical associations

Low Acid Coffee, Brand: Cafe Don Pablo

Magical uses: Coffee helps to dispel nightmares and negative thoughts and to overcome internal blockages. Provides peace of mind and grounding. It’s a morning ritual for most people.

Johns Hopkins says there are 9 Reasons why coffee is good for you.

Honey, Brand: Desert Creek

Magical uses: Honey is used for attraction and solar magic. It can be used in spells for manifestation.

Honey is used in so many healing ways from wound care, to soothing coughs, and skincare. I love using honey instead of sugar in just about anything.

Cardamom, Brand: Burlap & Barrel

Magical uses: Cardamom is known to relieve anxiety, evoke calmness, counter lethargy and is mood boosting.

Cardamom is said to have anti-inflammatory effects and may lower blood pressure. It’s such an underrated spice. I put some in with my coffee before brewing for a subtle spicy note. I alternate between Cardamom, Cinnamon, and lavender in my coffee.

Himalayan Pink Salt, Brand: Salt Works

Magical uses: Himalayan Pink Salt is good for self-love.

For centuries pure salt has been used for protection, releasing attachments, purification, and cleansing negativity in magical and traditional rituals.

Olive Oil, Brand: Bariani

Magical uses: Olive oil can be incorporated into healing rituals to promote overall well-being and ward off negative energy .

It has so many health benefits including skincare. Have you heard that olive oil is said to be great for your overall sexual health? Some people claim it’s better than Viagra! Here are some articles I found about it:

It's also been shown to lower blood pressure and have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that reduce the disease process, including heart disease.

Dried Lavender Flowers , Brand: Starwest Botanicals

Magical uses: include love, protection, healing, sleep. Promotes healing from depression. Great in sleep pillows and baths.

I keep lavender in the kitchen for lavender lemonade, tea, & lavender muffins. I also grind it and use it to make lavender lattes. Lavender is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and calming.

Milk Thistle Tea, Brand: FGO

Magical uses: Milk Thistle include strength, perseverance, wisdom, aid in decision making.

Milk Thistle is great to de-tox your body and your liver.

Every spoonful has nutrients like riboflavin, zinc, calcium, and magnesium. It’s anti-inflammatory and a great sugar alternative.

Ceylon Cinnamon, Brand: Spicely Organics

Magical uses: Cinnamon is associated with spirituality, success, healing, protection, power, love, luck, strength, and prosperity.

I use cinnamon a lot in my kitchen. I put it in my coffee, smoothies, and I bake with it. It helps to regulate blood sugar and protect against heart disease. It is anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal.
