Hand care is Skin care

Skincare for your hands

Don’t neglect your hands

Most people have a skin care routine for their face but not their hands.. The skin on the back of your hands is thin which makes it more susceptible to the signs of aging. Just like your face, your hands should have a skincare routine in order to protect them.

Hand care is also Self Care

I love a good luxurious hand wash & moisturizer. The aromatherapy effect is mood elevating. Do it with your regular skin care and it won’t add time to your routine.

  1. Cleanse

I think this goes without saying but hand-washing & sanitizing are an integral part of overall health. Frequent washing during the day can wash off sunscreen so make sure your re-apply.

  2. Exfoliate

When exfoliating your body, don’t forget your hands. They feel amazing afterwards. I prefer a body exfoliant for my hands vs. a facial one because it’s stronger and your hands can take it. Your face needs a much gentler exfoliant. Uni makes a 2-in-one exfoliating hand wash that’s awesome!

  3. Moisturize

Your hands have less oil glands than your face so they can feel dry fast, especially with frequent hand washing and sanitizing.

  4. Sun Protection! The UV rays from the sun cause about 80 percent of skin changes that are associated with aging.

The sun’s UV radiation attacks any unprotected skin in its path. The hands are exposed daily to the sun and are not protected as well as other areas. Sun exposure can lead to brown sun spots, thinning skin and wrinkles. Hands are prone to developing precancerous spots called actinic keratoses which can turn into squamous cell carcinoma, the second-most-common type of skin cancer.

Hands can easily get neglected when applying sunscreen to the rest of your body or the sunscreen gets washed off and is not reapplied. One of my favorite sunscreens is Elta MD.

Hand care is skin care

Here are my current hand care obsessions that are on my vanity in rotation. I love the aromatherapy benefit of hand care along with the skin care benefits.

“Fragrance” in beauty products can be toxic so I look for clean products with natural fragrance.

Sangre de Fruta

I recently found this line and I’m obsessed! I love their use of neroli, sandalwood, rose, and geranium. Sangre de Fruta means “Blood of the Fruit” in Spanish.  All ocean friendly products are made in small batches off the west coast of British Columbia. Transcending toxic beauty trends to promote lasting health and wellness, Sangre de Fruta’s plant-based products are conjured from a rich history of holistic health and beauty practices.

Maison Louis Marie

Maison Louis Marie has some of my favorite fragrances ever created. I love that you can get hand wash and moisturizer that matches your favorite scent! They are vegan, cruelty-free, and formulated using natural ingredients derived from plants. The formulas are also supplemented with Ginko Biloba, Aloe, Marigold flower and Oat extracts that aid to moisturize and repair your skin.

Uni

“Designed for you, made for the planet” What I love about Uni is it’s Carbon neutral , Face grade, Zero waste , and Reef safe approach to body care. They are very mindful of the harm that single use product packaging does to our environment and are making a difference by being the change. Their vegan, cruelty-free hand wash is exfoliating and feels amazing! It’s made with finely ground olive pits, neem root, and orange peel, making it smell divine.

Spa of Iceland

All SPA of ICELAND products use cruelty-free and vegan-certified raw materials. The scent is crisp Icelandic moss and Scandinavian thyme and not as strong as the others. I love this scent! It’s beautiful but not overpowering. If you are sensitive to stronger fragrance, I recommend trying this one.

Oliverum

Their vegan and cruelty-free hand care is specifically made for dry, dehydrated and hard-working hands. Scented with herbaceous essential oils of Marjoram, Lavandin and Geranium. Smells heavenly!
